The imai - inter media art institute is Germany´s first non-profit foundation dedicated to distribution, preservation and research in the field of video and media based arts. As a distributor for international video art imai is aiming to expand the scope of reception of the artist and their works. Therefore imai built up a unique Online-Catalogue providing access to more than 1.300 video art works and additional information via internet.
Additionally co-operations with curators, universities and institutions create the necessary international platform for the represented artists. imai is an open forum for an international community dealing with questions of exhibition, preservation and dissemination of audiovisual arts. The aim of imai is also to support research in the fields of media art by cooperation with universities and art academies and by initiating and coordinating research projects like Materialised Fleetingness: Conservation and Reenactment of New Media Installations. Among the scheduled regularly held events are conferences, seminars, video screenings and exhibition projects like the Gary Hill solo show Strange Trajectories in autumn 2007.
